Ingenious today announced that it is backing the debut album of The Orange Lights, a five-piece band formed by ex-Lighthouse Family songwriter Paul Tucker. The investment of £824,000, made though Ingenious Music VCT 2, is a joint venture with Blackbird Records Limited.
Originally from Newcastle, The Orange Lights have already achieved critical acclaim for a sound described as 'a collision between soul and indie'. The group combines the talents of vocalist Jason Hart, who toured extensively as guitarist with Spiritualized, and keyboard player Paul Tucker who achieved in excess of 11 million record sales and six UK top 20 singles with The Lighthouse Family.
The album will be distributed by ADA through Warners. Marketing will be headed by Ben Turner of Graphite Media (manager of Bestival & BBC Radio 1's Rob da Bank), who runs the label and manages the band. The promotions team features Dylan White of Anglo Plugging (U2 and Oasis), Sarah Pearson from Wasted Youth (Keane) as well as US marketing representation through Sat Bisla, who helped break Keane and a host of others in the US.
Duncan Reid, Commercial Director of Ingenious, said:
"The Orange Lights have a great future ahead of them. In Paul Tucker they have a songwriter with a proven track record and millions of sales under his belt.'' "This deal once again underlines Ingenious's commitment to help launch emerging acts to go alongside the established artists we are also working with."
Ben Turner, Manager of The Orange Lights, said:
''The Orange Lights and Blackbird Records are truly excited to be working with Ingenious. We admire their vision for the future of the music industry, and this deal empowers us to fulfil our global vision for the act. The music industry is changing by the day, and it feels like we're working with people who can see way into the future of the record business as a whole.''
